Psalm 119:105 - Light For A Dark World

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psa 119:105 (KJV)

The Bible is the great standard of right and wrong, clearly defining sin and
holiness. Its living principles, running through our lives like threads of
gold, are our only safeguard in trial and temptation. CT422

The word of God is the standard of character. In giving us this word, God
has put us in possession of every truth essential to salvation. Thousands
have drawn water from these wells of life, yet there is no diminishing of
the supply. GW250,1

God's Word is full of precious promises and helpful counsel. It is
infallible; for God cannot err. It has help for every circumstance and
condition of life, and God looks on with sadness when His children turn from
it to human aid. ML27

This is a dark world and the only dependable light is the Word of God (2
Peter 1:19-21). It leads us a step at a time, as we walk in obedience. First
John 1:5-10 tells us we walk in the light as we obey His Word. [Wiersbe
Expository Outlines]

It must be not only a light to out eyes, to gratify them, and fill our heads
with speculations, but a light to our feet and to our path, to direct us in
the right ordering of our conversation, both in the choice of our way in
general and in the particular steps we take in that way. (Matthew Henry's
Commentary)

In daily study the verse-by-verse method is often most helpful. Let the
student take one verse and concentrate his mind on ascertaining the thought
that God has put into that verse for him, and then dwell upon the thought
until it becomes his own. One passage thus studied until its significance
becomes clear is of more value than the perusal of many chapters with no
definite purpose in view and no positive instruction gained. CT461

If we fill our minds and hearts with God's Word, we will have the light we
need to know what we must do next. [The 365-Day Devotional Commentary]

If we do not consult the Guidebook at every step, inquiring, is this the way
of the Lord? our words and acts will be tainted by selfishness. We shall
forget God, and walk in paths that He has not chosen for us. ML27
