Proverbs 22:17-19 - Assimilating Scripture has Rich Consequences!

Pro.22:17-19; Assimilating Scripture has Rich Consequences!

Prov. 22:17b-19a (NRSV) Incline your ear and hear my words, and
apply your mind to my teaching; for it will be pleasant if you keep
them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. So that your
trust may be in the LORD,

These are to be heard with humility and deep attention: "Bow
down thine ear."....
They must not only be heard, but meditated and pondered: "Apply
thine heart to my knowledge." (Adam Clarke Commentary)

These proverbs are written that we may put our trust in the Lord
rather than in man. [SDA Commentary]

To these words, to this knowledge, the ear must be bowed down,
and the heart applied by faith and love. To live a life of delight
in God and dependence on him, is the foundation of all practical
religion. [Matthew Henry Commentary]

Indifference, self-sufficiency, or dullness of mind and heart
can close our ears to words of wisdom. We do not acquire knowledge
by sitting passively and waiting for it. We must search for it as
though it were a hidden treasure. [Disciple SB]

What is "pleasant" in the sight of God and man is the union of
two things, belief passing into profession, profession resting on
belief. (Barnes' Notes)

Proverbs are valuable to us only if we listen carefully, take
them to heart, and pass them on as well as practice them. [The

As we incorporate the Bible into our lives it will not only help
us to trust in God but bring about miracles in us:

It will lead us to salvation which is in Christ:
2 Tim. 3:15 (KJV) And that from a child thou hast known the holy
scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith
which is in Christ Jesus.

It will cause our faith to grow:
Rom. 10:17 (KJV) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by
the word of God.

It will show us right from wrong:
2 Tim. 3:16 (KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness:

It will keep us from sinning:
