Proverbs 3:5, 6 - Devotional Collection.

Proverbs 3:5, 6 (KJV)  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; 
and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways 
acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 

Proverbs 3:5, 6 (MSG)  Trust God from the bottom of your heart; 
don't try to figure out everything on your own.  Listen for God's 
voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will 
keep you on track.  

This passage of Scripture is the LIFE VERSE for many people:

Be A Pathfinder
  Fifty-seven years ago I slipped a diamond ring on Arlie's 
finger, and together we chose our life verses: Proverbs 3:5-6. The 
passage is just thirty words or so, but we have found that we can 
meditate on any part of it, and God will use it to draw us further down 
the paths he has chosen just for our lives. 
  During the years that followed, those paths led us into places 
of ecstatic joy, such as the births of our five children and eleven 
grandchildren, and places of stinging pain, such as the loss of our oldest son 
in an auto accident. Whether we climbed to the majestic 
mountaintops of life or down into the dark valleys, we always found his light 
for our paths to the extent that we trusted in him for understanding 
and guidance and sought his will before moving ahead. When we failed 
to do that, we found the path very dark and foreboding. 
  Our life verses have become a heritage for our four children 
and their spouses and for our eleven grandchildren, all of whom are 
walking close to the Lord. We truly believe that having the light of 
God's Word to guide us in marriage, parenting, and grand parenting has 
made the difference in succeeding generations.

Living A Rich Journey
  When I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 1986 and began reading 
the Bible every day, so many Scripture verses leaped out at me, each 
applicable to my life and walk with the Lord. Each day brought revelation 
and surprise, and sometimes heartache. As promised, the Holy Spirit 
instructed me through these verses, pointing out areas of my life that I 
needed to surrender, sins I had not yet confessed, attitudes that 
needed correction, lessons on godly living, numerous examples of other 
struggling human beings--a treasure trove! Scripture was, indeed, new every 
morning. God's love is a consuming fire! Jesus doesn't want bits and 
pieces of my life. He wants everything. He wants me to surrender 
(daily) and be clay in his hands, which he will mold into the vessel he 
planned me to be. 
  Reading Scripture is a personal encounter with the Lord: 
exciting, exhilarating, and at times frightening. Through all the special 
verses I've written down over the years, Proverbs 3:5-6 has become an 
anchor for me. These two verses summarize the path I intend to walk 
through this life and into the next. When my mother was dying of cancer, 
I learned how special these verses were to her as well, which made 
them doubly special to me. I saw her live out Proverbs 3:5-6. God 
willing, my children and grandchildren will grasp the richness of these 
verses, too, and will find strength in the promise God offers through 
them.

Lean Into God
  In 2003, both our boys left for college, and I felt pretty 
good about the way I had handled the whole empty-nest thing. I even 
handled final edits on my last book during a cross-country move. But 
when the boxes were unpacked and the book was finished, I found 
myself unable to write. Writer's block, performance anxiety, and 
depression had set in. 
  I had decided to teach some classes at the local community 
college, but as I prepared the lesson plan for "Writing from the Heart," 
I realized that my heart, that space where Jesus dwells, had 
shrunk. In handling everything by myself, I had shut God out. 
  Ironically, the theme of my books is trusting God. But through 
prayer and pastoral counseling, I learned that trust is just the first 
step. I must also seek his will in everything I say and do. I can't 
depend on my own vision, insight, wisdom, or experience. Life is a 
constant process of trusting and seeking, seeking and trusting. When I 
learned that lesson and incorporated these verses in my own daily life, 
I was once again able to sit down at my writing desk and tell the 
old, old story of Jesus and his love.

Not Hollywood's Standards
  I committed my life to Christ when I was ten and soon came 
across this verse from Proverbs. As a shy kid taking acting lessons to 
break out of her shell, trusting God seemed pretty reasonable. But 
then the world began to chime in. For nine years I had the privilege 
of portraying Blair Warner, the rich, pampered, boarding- school 
student on NBC's Facts Of Life. My faith helped me avoid the dark clouds 
that swept over so many child actors, but other pitfalls remained. 
  Let's face it: This teenager was no match for Hollywood's 
standards of beauty and body proportion. It's tough enough going through 
puberty, but I was doing it in front of a national television audience! 
That was my first big lesson in leaning on God. Another came shortly 
after leaving television, when my husband and I had three babies in 
three years and didn't know how each could have such a different 
temperament. We read all kinds of parenting books and attended all kinds of 
classes, but life still seemed out of control. Once again, I had to trust 
and lean on God. Only then did he give me a straight path, which led 
to launching a ministry that has blessed my family and thousands of 
other moms and families. 
  I still surrender control to God every day, but not because he 
wants us to throw our hands up and stop trying. He simply wants our 
hearts to acknowledge him in all we do. And that is just a simple fact 
of my life--and yours.
