Psalm 119:105 - Do You Know Where You Are And Where You Are Going?

Psalm 119:105 - Do You Know Where You Are And Where You Are
Going?

Psalm 119:105 (KJV) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light
unto my path.

Psalm 119:105 (CWR) Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light
for my path.

As a light shines upon our feet it shows us where we are at and
as it shines on our path it shows us where we are going. God's word
likewise can show us spiritually WHERE WE ARE AT in life and WHERE WE ARE
GOING. [thought from Dan Parobek SS class]

Light facilitates sight; whenever God shines his light on
something, he does so for the purpose of illuminating it so that we can see
it.
When David speaks of the word of God lighting both his feet
and his path, he is speaking of two different temporal dimensions:
The word of God lights my feet so that I can see where I'm walking
right now; and the word of God lights my path so that I can see where
I'm headed.
There are moments in which we cannot see where we are or
where we are going. In those moment we simply need to trust that God
is leading us beyond our ability to follow him. However, those
moments are not supposed to characterize our lives; they are just
moments. God ultimately desires to fill us with the knowledge of his will
(Colossians 1:9) so that we know both where we are and where we are going.
He wants to give us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that the
eyes of our understanding may be enlightened (Ephesians 1:17-18)...
God's action is that he has given us his word, but our
experience of that word is that it lights both our feet (our current
position) and our path (our future destination) so that we know both where
we are and where we are going. That is, when you say, Your word is
a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, you are actually saying,
"Thanks to your word, I can know where I am and I can know where I am
going!" adaptation from Pastor Benjamin Robinson

To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it.
