John 10:10 - The Abundant Life!

John 10:10 (NKJV) I have come that they may have life, and that
they may have it more abundantly.

it to the full.

John 10:10 (AMP) I came that they may have and enjoy life, and
have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

John 10:10 (MSG) I came so they can have real and eternal life,
more and better life than they ever dreamed of.

COMMENTARY

The life Jesus gives is abundantly richer and fuller. It is
eternal, yet it begins immediately. Life in Christ is lived on a higher
plane because of his overflowing forgiveness, love, and guidance...
Abundance of life points to depth of living now and length of
living in eternity. It is not only life as good as it can be, but also
life beyond what we can imagine!...
It is clearly not, however, a life that denies problems and
pain. Rather, it is a life that faces them and makes use of them.
Instead of letting us focus on the ups and downs of life, Jesus takes us
deep into life itself, where there is a calm center even in the
storm. [Life Application Commentary]

Who would ever say they really didn't want the very best life
could bring? No matter what the environment we find ourselves in, we
all want the best there is. And this is where the best begins, with
a personal relationship to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It is
a simple message. We are lost and must be saved, if ever we are to
enjoy the best there is. Best really isn't even a good word, for it
connotes comparison. And what comparison is there between life and
death; between an intimate relationship with the Creator of the
universe and a constant growing knowledge of Him, or a habitual process
of pain, frustration and degradation? None. God's desire is for
all to come to Him in salvation, and His grace provides the way
through Jesus His Son. This salvation cannot be earned. It is available
through the love of God. Do you have this intimate, growing
relationship? Tell others. If you don't have it, it is available now. [In
His Time; Walk With Wisdom]

Jesus warns us to be on guard for thieves who will try to rob
us of what God has for us. Jesus wants us to enjoy abundant life
(John 10:10). Since the time of Adam and Eve, people have had to
choose whom to believe. Satan convinced Adam and Eve that forfeiting
their obedience to God would gain them everything. Instead, their
disobedience robbed them of all they had. For the rest of their lives they
experienced only a fraction of the blessings God had intended. Scripture is
replete with accounts of those who forfeited their inheritance as
children of God in order to gain that which was transitory and empty.
The world seeks to convince you that you will find
fulfillment if you adopt its standard of morality for your marriage, raising
your children, advancing your career, or pursuing pleasure. If you
believe this, you will never experience the blessings God intended for
you. Sin brings death (Ro 6:23). It is tragic to listen to the voices
of the world instead of to the One who created life and who wants
you to experience life to its fullest.
Jesus wants you to live your life with security, knowing that
you are a beloved child of God. If you are not experiencing love,
joy, and peace, you have settled for less than what God intends for
you. If you have been making excuses for why you are not experiencing
an abundant and joyful life, determine today to settle for nothing
less than God's best for your life. Stop following the world's way of
finding satisfaction. Instead, listen to the Savior's voice, and you
will find true fulfillment. [Experiencing God Day by Day by Henry and
Richard Blackaby]

The life God wants to give you is not small and restrictive.
Jesus says the abundant life that comes from being intimately
connected to him will be better than all your dreams rolled into one. It
will happen more and more as you spend daily time with him. Create
daily alerts in your phone or computer to remind you to check in with
God. This will help you create a habit of spending time with him
throughout the day. Just say, "Jesus, I'm here. I'm back. I trust in you."
Ask him to open your eyes to see his abundance through your
work, in your health, and in your relationships. He wants to fill you
with the abundance of his own life so that your life is rich and
satisfying. He wants a real relationship with you, where you come to know
him more deeply as time goes on. You'll find there's always more to
learn. And you'll be amazed at how he surpasses your wildest dreams
with the richness of his love and nearness of his presence.
Go ahead and dream of abundant life. God freely provides as
we draw near to him. [The Daniel Plan 365-Day Devotional]

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

I have come so that you may have life - and have it more
abundantly. The chief purpose of My incarnation was to secure eternal Life
for you. However, I also want you to live abundantly today - and all
your days. To do this, you need to remember Whose you are and who you
are. You belong to Me, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. And
you are My beloved child, adopted into My royal family. Adoption is
a forever-transaction: I have not hired you as My employee. I have
made you a permanent member of My family.
Don't let the familiarity of these truths lull you into
sleepwalking through your days. I, your faithful Guide, am more vibrantly
alive than you can fathom! As you stay close to Me, some of My Life
"rubs off" on you - awakening your heart so you can live more fully.
This helps you see that you are on an adventurous journey with Me -
where you make a difference, where your choices significantly impact
the world. And I, your God, will be your Guide even to the end.
(John 10:7-10; Rom. 8:16; Psa. 48:14) [Jesus Today by Sarah Young]
Note Of Clarification: God gives us freewill and He honors our
choices; if we choose to forsake our adoption and membership in the
family, then, He will honor that choice.

Living in dependence on Me is the way to enjoy abundant life.
You are learning to appreciate tough times, because they amplify
your awareness of My Presence. Tasks that you used to dread are
becoming rich opportunities to enjoy My closeness. When you feel tired,
you remember that I am your Strength; you take pleasure in leaning
on Me. I am pleased by your tendency to turn to Me more and more
frequently, especially when you are alone.
When you are with other people, you often lose sight of My
Presence. Your fear of displeasing people puts you in bondage to them, and
they become your primary focus. When you realize this has happened,
whisper My Name; this tiny act of trust brings Me to the forefront of
your consciousness, where I belong. As you bask in the blessing of My
nearness, My life can flow through you to others. This is abundant life!
(Pro. 29:25; John 10:10) [Jesus Calling by Sarah Young]

I am perpetually with you, taking care of you. That is the
most important fact of your existence. I am not limited by time or
space; My Presence with you is a forever-promise. You need not fear the
future, for I am already there. When you make that quantum leap into
eternity, you will find Me awaiting you in heaven. Your future is in My
hands; I release it to you day by day, moment by moment. Therefore, do
not worry about tomorrow.
I want you to live this day abundantly, seeing all there is
to see, doing all there is to do. Don't be distracted by future
concerns. Leave them to Me! Each day of life is a glorious gift, but so
few people know how to live within the confines of today. Much of
their energy for abundant living spills over the time line into
tomorrow's worries or past regrets. Their remaining energy is sufficient
only for limping through the day, not for living it to the full. I am
training you to keep your focus on My Presence in the present. This is
how to receive abundant Life, which flows freely from My throne of
grace. (Mat. 6:34; John 10:10; James 4:13-15) [Jesus Calling by Sarah
Young]

Learn to enjoy life more. Relax, remembering that I am God with
you. I crafted you with enormous capacity, to know Me and enjoy My
Presence. When My people wear sour faces and walk through their lives with
resigned rigidity, I am displeased. When you walk through a day with
childlike delight, savoring every blessing, you proclaim your trust in Me,
your ever-present Shepherd. The more you focus on My Presence with
you, the more fully you can enjoy life. Glorify Me through your
pleasure in Me. Thus you proclaim My Presence to the watching world.
(Mat. 1:23; John 10:10, 11) [Jesus Calling by Sarah Young]

Relax in My Presence, knowing that nothing can separate you
from My Love. The worst-case scenario in your life - that I might
stop loving you - is not even in the realm of possibility. So rejoice
that you don't have to perform well enough to earn My Love, or to
keep it. This Love is pure gift, flowing out of My own perfect
righteousness. It secures your connection to Me - your Savior - for all
eternity.
Since the worst thing imaginable is not possible, you can
relax and live more abundantly. When things are going well in your
life, I want you to enjoy those good times fully - without worrying
about what is on the road ahead. When you are facing tough times, I
will help you and strengthen you with My Love. Even though you live
in a world where trouble is inescapable, you can be of good cheer
because I have overcome the world! [Jesus Today by Sarah Young]

CLOSING THOUGHTS

When we walk with Jesus, there comes a new vitality, a
superabundance of life. It is only when we live with Christ that life becomes
really worth living and we begin to live in the real sense of the word.
