COMMENTARY PEARLS

God's Guidance
Many Christians complain that God doesn't speak to them when
they're in need of guidance. For some reason they have forgotten the
first and most basic way God leads His children - through His written
Word!
As the psalmist said, "Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a
light to my path" (Psalm 119:105). Whenever you see the scriptural
phrase "This is the will of God," you know for sure that's His will.
You also know that to disobey is to break His Word. Other clear
indications of His leading are the precepts and principles in the
Scripture.
Precepts are clearly marked statements like "Abstain from
sexual immorality." That's like saying, "Speed Limit 35." What is
speeding? Anything over 35 miles an hour. That's a precept.
Then there are principles in the Scriptures that are general
guidelines that require discernment and maturity if we are to grasp them.
So often in the emotion of the moment or the pressure of the
day, we make a decision that we would never make in the clear,
discerning light of God's Word. Make a habit of reading the Word when
you're facing tough decisions or moves, and study it prayerfully. God
will talk to you!
You will never, ever go wrong in consulting the Scriptures.
Facing tough decisions? Stay in the Word and study it
prayerfully. God will talk to you. [Chuck Swindoll www.insight.org.]

Think Biblically
Everyone has a worldview. Our worldview is influenced by many
things. Its influenced by our culture, by our upbringing, and by our
education or lack thereof. Its influenced by the books we read or the
lack of books we read. Its influenced by the media we expose
ourselves to.
A worldview is comprehensive. It will affect every area of
our lives, from our morality to how we spend our money to our
politics to how we vote. It affects everything about us. What we want to
have is a Christian worldview, and more specifically, a biblical
worldview.
   C. S. Lewis said, I believe in Christianity as I believe
that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it
I see everything else. Thats how we need to view life:
through the lens of Scripture, through the eyes of a follower of Jesus
Christ.
The only way to have a biblical worldview is by studying and
memorizing Scripture and spending time in it every day. We want to run
everything through a biblical grid, asking ourselves, What does the
Bible say about this?
Sometimes people have an emotional worldview. They base their
views on how they feel. Theyll say, Well, I just go with my
heart, because the heart wants what the heart wants.
Heres what the Bible says about our hearts: The human
heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who
really knows how bad it is? (Jeremiah 17:9 NLT).
Dont go with your heart, because your heart can mislead
you. Dont go with your emotions, because your emotions can mislead
you. And certainly dont go with the culture, because that will
mislead you. Go with the Bible. It will never take you in the wrong
direction. Learn to think biblically. [By Greg Laurie from Harvest

Good Decisions Always Agree with Gods Word
When you need to make a decision, the first and ideal test is
this: Is my decision in harmony with Gods Word?
You have to decide whats going to be your ultimate
authority in life. It really boils down to this choice: Gods Word or
the world. Are you going to base your decisions on what God says or
what other people say?
If you base your life on popular opinion, youre always
going to be out of date, because it changes every day. What was
in yesterday will not be in today, and whats in
today will not be in tomorrow. If you base your life on popular
culture, political correctness, or opinion polls, you will struggle
because youre building on a shifting foundation!
On the other hand, if you base your life on Gods Word, the
truth never changes. Truth is always true. So if God says something
was wrong 10,000 years ago, it was also wrong 500 years ago, its
wrong today, and it will be wrong 1,000 years from today. I dont
care what opinion polls and political correctness and the media say.
If God says its wrong, its wrong. It always has been, and it
always will be. If God says its right, it will always be right. That
is a solid foundation!
God has set up the universe with certain laws - physical,
moral, and spiritual. God built the universe around these laws because
theyre all for your benefit. When you cooperate with the principles in
this universe, you succeed. If you reject, disobey, ignore, and rebel
against Gods principles, youre the one who gets hurt.
You dont ever break Gods laws. They break you! If I go
up on top of a building and jump off, I dont break the law of
gravity. It breaks me. The same is true with moral laws and spiritual
laws. You cannot just thumb your nose at God and get away with it.
Theres inevitably a reckoning. Anytime you violate Gods principles,
youre asking for trouble.
With all this in mind, you can be confident in your decision.
If God says its okay, then you do it. If God says no, then you
dont do it.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path
(Psalm 119:105 NIV). [Daily Devotional by Rick Warren:
