Luke 12:35 - How To Be Ready For Jesus.

Luke 12:35: How To Be Ready For Jesus.

Luke 12:35-36 (NLT) Be dressed for service and keep your
lamps burning, 36 as though you were waiting for your master to return
from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and
let him in the moment he arrives and knocks.

COMMENTARY PEARL

The morning of my birthday, the doorbell rang. Still in my
pajamas and barely coherent, I ignored the bell. Later when I was
dressed, I peeked outside. A cute gift bag rested beside the door with a
note from a friend. While I was delighted by the gift, I was
disappointed that I'd missed my friend - because I wasn't ready.
Jesus taught His disciples to be prepared for His return -
like servants with the lights on, ready to hear His knock. I've
always understood this to mean a readiness for the ultimate last day,
when He comes in glory. But I wonder if we can glean another sort of
call from these verses. I'd like to wake each day with my heart tuned
to hear from Jesus, ready to change course at any time. When
something interrupts my plans, I'm more likely to dig in my heels. I
rarely stop to consider whether Jesus might be asking for my attention
- asking me to let Him into my day. I miss an opportunity for
fellowship with Him - all because I wasn't ready.
Today, let's keep our hand on the doorknob, ready to respond
when Jesus knocks. In our rushed commute, He may nudge us to offer a
cup of coffee to a homeless man. During a chaotic day, He may point
out a friend who needs a kind word. In the exhaustion of evening, He
may ask us to pray for our spouse.
How exciting life will become as we keep our lamps burning,
watching for the ways Jesus arrives in our day. by Sharon Hinck

day. Ask Jesus to help you keep your heart prepared for His arrival.
