Galatians 3:27 - Clothed With Christ!
Galatians 3:27 (NLT) And all who have been
united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ,
like putting on new clothes.
As my granddaughter entered third grade,
her family moved to a school district with a
strict dress code. Students wore pants in khaki,
black, or navy; polo shirts in a handful of colors;
and plain dresses with polo-style tops. No jeans
or glitzy accessories allowed. Lacey hated the
limited wardrobe at first, but I think she grew used
to it and felt a unity with the other students.
I'm sure it took her less time to get ready for
school back then, as opposed to now as a
seventh-grader in a school with much looser guidelines.
Growing up I never had to wear a school
uniform, but as a believer in Christ I do have a
dress code to follow. Once we are united with
Jesus, He calls us to lay aside our old, sinful
nature and put on His character. Colossians 3:12-14
lists the specifics of our new wardrobe:
tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness,
patience, and forgiveness. And the perfect finishing
touch to our outfit? "Above all, clothe yourselves
with love, which binds us all together in perfect
harmony" (verse 14, NLT).
Obviously, I need help with my wardrobe.
Some days I find that I've clothed myself in
pride instead of humility, self-centeredness
instead of kindness, and resentment rather than
forgiveness. We never know what the day ahead will bring.
It's only when we are wearing the character
traits of Jesus that well be able to respond to
people and circumstances in ways that honor Him and
bring good to others. We would be wise to stick to
the dress code He's given us. by Dianne
Faith Step: Write the character traits in
Colossians 3:12-14 and keep the list nearby. As you get
dressed, ask Jesus to help you to put on His
character. [Mornings With Jesus 2018 Devotional by
