Psalm 37:23, 24 - LEARNING TO TUNE IN.
Psalm 37:23, 24 (NIV) The LORD makes firm
the steps of the one who delights in him; though
he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD
upholds him with his hand.
After more than 40 years of walking with
the Lord, Ive found that finding Gods will
often is something that unfolds as I take steps of
faith. Its not as though I wake up every morning
and God audibly says to me, Okay, Greg,
heres the plan for today. Heres the blueprint.
Check it out.
Instead, He just leads me a step at a
time. And then His will becomes clear as I start
walking in it. The Bible says, The steps of a
good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights
in his way (Psalm 37:23 NKJV). So we read
the Word of God, we pray for direction, and we
start taking steps.
Abraham was uniquely called the friend of
God. We read in Genesis that God said, Shall I
hide from Abraham what I am doing, since Abraham
shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and
all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in
him? (Genesis 18:17-18 NKJV).
And Jesus said, No longer do I call
you servants, for a servant does not know what
his master is doing; but I have called you
friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I
have made known to you (John 15:15 NKJV).
God, as your friend, wants to reveal His
will to you. Not only that, but God, as your
friend, wants to reveal His secrets to you as well.
The Bible says, The secret of the Lord is
with those who fear Him, and He will show them
His covenant (Psalm 25:14 NKJV).
The will of God is not an option for the
true Christian. That is because Gods will is
not an itinerary; its an attitude.
There are things God wants to unfold and
unveil in our lives, but we need to learn to tune
in. [Greg Laurie from Harvest Ministries;
Tuned In To God
One beautiful spring morning, an
experienced hiker was walking with a friend down Fifth
Avenue in Manhattan in NYC. The streets filled with
the sounds of weekday rush-hour traffic.
Suddenly the hiker stopped. "Listen," he said. "I
hear a cricket."
"That's nonsense!" his friend scoffed.
"Why do you think you hear a lowly cricket in all
this downtown uproar?"
"I'm sure I do," the hiker said. "Watch
this." He pulled a dime from his pocket and dropped
it on the pavement. Almost all of the people
nearby stopped at the sound of the coin hitting the
"All of us are tuned in to certain
things," the hiker said to his friend. "Our ears hear
what they are tuned in to. Mine happen to be
tuned to crickets."
In a similar way we need to be tuned in
to Jesus. Praying without ceasing. Keeping
that attitude of prayer that Enoch had as we walk
with Jesus through the day and every day [Youth
SB re Mat. 13:1-23]
Rest in My presence, allowing Me to take
charge of this day. Do not bolt into the day like a
racehorse suddenly released. Instead, walk
purposefully with Me, letting Me direct your course one
step at a time. Thank Me for each blessing along
the way; this brings Joy to both you and Me. A
grateful heart protects you from negative thinking.
Thankfulness enables you to see the abundance I shower
upon you daily. Your prayers and petitions are
winged into heaven's throne room when they are
permeated with thanksgiving. (Col. 4:2; 1Th. 5:18)
