Romans 6:6, 7 - Free From The Power Of Sin!

Romans 6:6, 7 (NLT) Our old sinful selves
were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose
its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves
to sin. For when we died with Christ we were
set free from the power of sin.

COMMENTARY PEARL

Being involved in womens ministry and
global missions means I hear peoples life
stories. Some are victorious; some arent.
My heart breaks for Jesus followers who
live trapped in destructive attitudes and
behaviors such as fear, jealousy, unforgiveness,
pride, lust, greed, and gluttony. Some recognize
their plight and seek biblical counseling to break
free. Others seem content to live as captives of
the enemy.
I can relate. For several years my
physical appetite held me hostage. I overate three
times a day and gorged on junk food in secret, all
while struggling with obesity. I knew gluttony was
sin, but I felt helpless to stop.
I identified with Paul, who wrote, I
love Gods law with all my heart. But there is
another law at work within me that is at war with my
mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that
is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person
I am! Who will free me from this life that is
dominated by sin and death? (Romans 7:22"24,
NLT).
Paul answered his own question: Thank
God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord
(Romans 7:25, NLT). I found freedom from gluttony
when I finally acknowledged that Christs work
on Calvary ended sins control over me.
Allowing it to defeat me was akin to saying His death
was not enough.
   Jesuss suffering and resurrection have
empowered me to say no to temptation and to make wise
choices. I am free. Are you? by Grace Fox
