Matthew 24:35 - God's Word is Eternal.

Matthew 24:35 (NIV) Heaven and earth will
pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Strength in Troubled Times
Where will you turn in a time of crisis?
When tragedy hits? When disaster strikes? Will it
be your favorite magazine? The morning
newspaper? The evening news? You will need something to
give you strength and direction in your time of
need - and you can't find a better resource than
the Word of God.
As one pastor said, "One gem from that
ocean is worth all the pebbles of earthly
streams. Just a single pebble from the ocean of God's
Word can make all the difference when tragedy or
hardship strikes. How many in their affliction have
found comfort from the Scriptures?
Trusting in what God has said through the
Bible can sustain us and give us direction and
hope and comfort when we most need it.
Inspirational platitudes or clever sayings don't help - or
at least, not for very long - but the Word of
God does. It has been said that "he who rejects
the Bible has nothing to live by. Neither does
he have anything to die by."
Ideas and philosophies go in and out of
style with the passing of years, but the Word of
God never goes out of style. It never goes out
of date, unlike this morning's news. The Word
of God always will be relevant.
That is why C. S. Lewis said, "All that
is not eternal is eternally out of date."
I urge you to get a good foundation in
this Book because it is only a matter of time
until hardship strikes you. It happens in every
life, without exception. But if you have a good
foundation in the Word of God, then you will be ready
for difficulty when it comes. Don't wait until
then to try and catch up.
Get that foundation now. [Every Day with
Jesus by Greg Laurie]

Jesus' words are more certain than the
existence of the universe. [NIV SB]

The words of Christ are more certain than
the very existence of the universe. [Nelson SB]

God has revealed Himself through His Word,
both the living Word, Jesus Christ, and His
written Word, the Bible. Neither will ever cease to
exist. Heaven and earth, as we know them, will some
day cease to be. [Disciple SB]

The policies of even the greatest men of
earth change, but the principles of God are
steadfast forever, for God changes not (Mal. 3:6).
[SDA Bible Commentary]

Religious leaders will come and go, stand
and fall; but the Word of God will not change.
Believe it, obey it, and hold to it - no matter what
others may say or do. Your Bible is God's light in
this dark world (2 Pet. 1:19-21). [Chapter by
Chapter Bible Commentary by Warren Wiersbe]

The word of God is the only steadfast
thing our world knows. It is the sure foundation.
"Heaven and earth shall pass away," said Jesus, "but
My words shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35.
The great principles of the law, of the
very nature of God, are embodied in the words of
Christ on the mount. Whoever builds upon them is
building upon Christ, the Rock of Ages. In receiving
the word, we receive Christ. And only those who
thus receive His words are building upon Him.
"Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid,
which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11. "There
is none other name under heaven, given among
men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12.
Christ, the Word, the revelation of God,--the
manifestation of His character, His law, His love, His
life,--is the only foundation upon which we can build
a character that will endure.
Christ places the salvation of man, not
upon profession merely, but upon faith that is
made manifest in works of righteousness. Doing,
not saying merely, is expected of the followers
of Christ. It is through action that character
is built. "As many as are led by the Spirit of
God, they are the sons of God." Romans 8:14. Not
those whose hearts are touched by the Spirit, not
those who now and then yield to its power, but
they that are led by the Spirit, are the sons of
Do you desire to become a follower of
Christ, yet know not how to begin? Are you in
darkness and know not how to find the light? Follow
the light you have. Set your heart to obey what
you do know of the word of God. His power, His
very life, dwells in His word. As you receive the
word in faith, it will give you power to obey. As
you give heed to the light you have, greater
light will come. You are building on God's word,
and your character will be builded after the
similitude of the character of Christ.
Christ, the true foundation, is a living
stone; His life is imparted to all that are built
upon Him. {MB 148-150}

So few things in our lives last forever. In
fact, Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:35 that "heaven
and earth will pass away, but my words will
never pass away." It makes you wonder, doesn't it,
why we spend so much time, energy, and resources
on the things of this world - making money,
creating a name, impressing our neighbors, collecting
treasures, seeking pleasure - when we know that they
will all be gone one day. Like God Himself, His
Word is eternal. What results from His Word is
also eternal: fruits of the Spirit such as love,
joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness
and self-control; fruits of our labor such as
soul winning, seed planting, soil watering; the
fruit of righteousness such as a pure life. What
will you say on that day when you stand before
the Lord to give an account of your time? Today
is a good day to start over: read His Word,
apply it to your life, and live it out! [In His
Time; Walk With Wisdom]

If anyone has a paraphrase, commentary or
testimony on this passage of Scripture, either
personal or otherwise, I would be interested in
hearing from you. Thanks in advance and let's keep
uplifting Jesus that all might be drawn to Him. Fred
