Psalm 130:5 - Waiting With Hope In The Lord and His Promises.

Psalm 130:5 (NIV) I wait for the LORD, my
whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.

Psalm 130:5 (TLB) That is why I wait
expectantly, trusting God to help, for he has promised.

COMMENTARY PEARL

Rewards Of Patience
How long would you wait in order to get
two marshmallows instead of one? Researchers at
the University of Rochester (N.Y.) tested a
group of kids ages three to five to see how long
they could resist eating this gooey treat. The
children were placed in a room in front of a
marshmallow. They were promised another marshmallow if
they could wait to eat the first one. Then the
researcher left the room for fifteen minutes. The kids
had no idea when the researcher would return.
Some kids licked the marshmallow. Others tried
looking away. Some picked tiny pieces from it, and a
few just popped the whole thing in their mouth
without waiting.
To make the experiment more interesting,
before entering the room the children were divided
into two groups. Both groups started doing a
craft project with broken crayons and poor art
supplies. The researchers promised each group they'd
return with better supplies. For one group of kids,
they came back with brand-new crayons and cool
stickers. Researchers returned to the other group
empty-handed. The kids who received the better art
supplies, as promised, waited an average of twelve
minutes before eating the marshmallow. The group who
experienced disappointment in not receiving better
supplies only waited an average of three minutes.
Waiting can be hard, even if you know
youll receive a reward. As Christians, were
encouraged to wait for the Lord's timing. But nobody
likes to wait. Its hard enough to wait three
minutes for microwave popcorn - let alone days,
weeks, or months for God to answer a prayer. We
want instant gratification. We want to eat the
marshmallow now!
King David didn't always wait on the
Lord, but his life went much better when he did.
In Psalm 27:13-14 he says, I remain
confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart and wait for the
Lord. Sometimes you might be tempted to take a
shortcut or get something done on your own power. But
God always comes through on his promises. If you
wait, you'll end up with something much better
than two marshmallows. His plans are greater than
your plans, so always wait on the Lord and
experience his blessings. [Case For Christ For Kids by

COMMENTARY

Trusting Gods Timing
Moses spent forty years in Pharaohs
court finding out he was a somebody, he spent
forty years in the desert finding out he was a
nobody, and then he spent forty years finding out
what God can do with somebody who finds out
theyre a nobody.
As the prince of Egypt, Moses was a
powerful man. But he also wanted to help his fellow
Hebrews. So when he saw an injustice, he took matters
into his own hands. He killed an Egyptian who was
beating a Hebrew. God didnt tell Moses to do
this. Moses took matters into his own hands. He
became a wanted man, and he headed for the hills.
He should have waited for Gods timing.
Moses suddenly went from being a prince
to working as a shepherd. And as far as the
Egyptians were concerned, a shepherd was a disgraceful
position to hold. Moses faded into complete
obscurity. Once the heir to the throne of all of Egypt,
he became a common shepherd to someone elses
sheep.
I think sometimes we grow impatient with
God and want to take matters into our own hands.
Maybe youre a wife married to a nonbelieving
husband, and you think youre going to nag him into
the kingdom of God. Trust me, it isnt going
to work. No man or woman ever will be nagged
into Gods kingdom. As you live a godly life,
your husband or wife will see it.
We need to pray about things, and we need
to trust the Lord and wait on His timing. When
the timing is right the Lord will direct you,
and thats when you need to act. Its not
enough to simply do the right thing. You need to do
the right thing in the right way at the right
time. [By Greg Laurie from Harvest Ministries;

CLOSING THOUGHT

God Is Working While Youre Waiting
God wants you to wait patiently for him
to answer your prayer, but he also wants you to
wait expectantly. Have faith. Trust God to hear
and to answer. When you wait expectantly, you
show God that you believe his promises. You
believe hes going to keep his word.
   Daniel Boone, the famous frontiersman,
was once asked, Have you ever gotten lost in
the wilderness? He said, No, Ive never
been lost. Ive been bewildered for weeks at a
time, but Ive never been lost.
Some of you may feel bewildered right
now. Youre bewildered about your marriage:
Im praying for it to get better, but its not
happening. Youre bewildered about your career: Do
I go up, down, or change jobs? Youre
bewildered about relationships. You may feel powerless
and hopeless, like you cant do anything to
change your situation on your own.
Dont be discouraged! Dont give up!
Look up. Turn to prayer. I have had many requests
in my life that Ive prayed to God that have
never been answered. I can think of one prayer
that I have prayed almost every day for 24 years,
and it hasnt been answered. I dont know
why God hasnt chosen to answer that prayer,
and I dont understand it. But I have decided
this: Whether or not God ever answers that prayer,
I am going to die believing his promises.
Because God is a good God, and he knows whats
best, even when I dont understand it.
When God doesnt answer your prayers,
you need to remember a couple very important
truths: First, God is in control, and youre not.
He knows better what you need than you do.
There is no mountain too tall that he cant move
it. There is no problem too big that he cant
solve it. There is no sorrow too deep he cannot
soothe it. God is in control, and he has a plan.
The second thing you need to remember is
that, whether or not you ever receive your answer,
God will honor your patience"if not in this
world then in eternity.
I wait expectantly, trusting God to
help, for he has promised (Psalm 130:5 TLB).

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

While you wait with Me, I work on
renewing your mind. As the Light of My Presence
shines into your mind, darkness flees and deception
is unmasked. However, there are many crevices
where old thought patterns try to hide. My Spirit
can search out and destroy those enemies, but He
awaits your cooperation. Habitual ways of thinking
do not die easily. When the Spirit's Light
illuminates a hurtful thought, capture it by writing it
down. Then bring it to Me so we can examine it
together. I will help you identify the distortions and
replace them with biblical truth.
The more you focus on Me and My Word, the
more you can break free from painful, irrational
thoughts. They usually have their roots in distressing
experiences that wounded you, so the distortions are
deeply etched into your brain. You may need to
recapture the same thought multiple times before you
can gain mastery over it. But all that effort
leads to a marvelous result: increased ability to
live freely and enjoy My Presence. (Psa. 130:5;
Rom. 12:2; John 8:12; 2Co. 10:5) [Jesus Always by
