Matthew 7:24 - Build on Solid Rock.

Matthew 7:24 (NIV) Everyone who hears these
words of mine and puts them into practice is like
a wise man who built his house on the rock.

COMMENTARY PEARL

Anyone who listens to my teaching and
follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house
on solid rock (Matthew 7:24 NLT).
Ive come to realize that I like the
idea of the beach more than actually going to the
beach. But when I do go, one thing I like about the
beach is building sandcastles with my grandkids.
Now, Im not a great sandcastle
builder, but there are other people who build
insanely elaborate ones right by the ocean. Theyre
amazing. But to me it seems like the biggest waste of
time ever because the tide eventually will rise
and wash them away.
It isnt a good idea to build something
on sand. Jesus said, But anyone who hears my
teaching and doesnt obey it is foolish, like a
person who builds a house on sand. When the rains
and floods come and the winds beat against that
house, it will collapse with a mighty crash
(Matthew 7:26"27 NLT).
   This person essentially represents a
nonbeliever. Ill call him a pseudobeliever who hears
the Word of God and doesnt do it. He appears
to be a believer when actually he is not.
When you get down to it, we all build our
lives on something. We all have a set of values
that we live by. Even people who say they have no
values actually have values of some kind. That is
the foundation of our lives.
So, heres the question: Will your
foundation sustain you when the storms of life come?
The storms of life will come our way in
some form. It may be a tidal wave of temptation
or the slow, eroding effect of more subtle
methods of the Enemy. And sometimes one storm will
follow another.
So, heres how to really know what your
life is built on: If youve built it on sand,
you will crumble. But if youve built it on
rock - the rock of Jesus Christ - you will stand
strong. [Greg Laurie from Harvest Ministries;

COMMENTARY

Though the Rain Comes
Storms can seemingly come out of nowhere,
and that can be true of life as well. It might
be a hardship. It might be anxiety. Or it might
be a tragedy. But its something that comes
rather quickly, seemingly out of nowhere, and it
has a significant impact on you.
Everyone has their own storm they deal
with, and sometimes its a mega-storm. I wish I
could say that youve come to a point in your
life where all the problems go away. But some
problems are just replaced by other ones.
So either youll be pulling into a
storm, or youll be pulling out of a storm. The
good news is that storms dont last forever.
They have a beginning, a middle, and an end. And
storms have their purposes.
Speaking at the end of the Sermon on the
Mount, Jesus talked about two men who built houses.
One built his house on a solid foundation of
rock. The other built his house on an unstable
foundation of sand.
Jesus said, Anyone who listens to my
teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who
builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes
in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the
winds beat against that house, it wont collapse
because it is built on bedrock (Matthew 7:24"25
NLT).
   But, He continued, anyone who
hears my teaching and doesnt obey it is
foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.
When the rains and floods come and the winds beat
against that house, it will collapse with a mighty
crash (verses 26"27 NLT).
The Bible says the rain will fall on the
righteous and the unrighteous. We cannot control
external circumstances. We cannot control what people
say to us or about us. And we cant control
everything that comes our way. But we can control our
reaction to it. [Greg Laurie from Harvest Ministries;
