Romans 5:8 - The Amazing Unconditional Love of God for Relationship.

Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his
own love for us in this: While we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 (NLT) But God showed his great
love for us by sending Christ to die for us while
we were still sinners.

INTRODUCTION

Theres an old riddle that says: What
direction did the polar bear look when he turned his
head to the right? To the left? And when he
looked straight ahead? The answer in each case is
south. He was standing on the North Pole. Its
something like this with a term we find in Romans
5:1"11. What does a Christian see if he looks back?
If he looks ahead? If he looks around?
Reconciliation! Looking back, we realize that the death of
Jesus has changed our condition and our heart. We
have been reconciled to God, and He has
transformed us from enemy to friend (v. 10). Looking
ahead we see an endless future in which Christ
stands by our side, till ultimately we stand by His
throughout eternity (v. 9). Looking around us, we find
that we experience joy in serving Jesus. We have
a now experience of reconciliation as
well. Even the word saved is like this. Look
back: you have been saved. Look ahead: you will be
saved. Look around: you are being saved. Jesus is
even now at work within to give you the power to
live a holy life. Our past, our present, and our
future are all transformed because of Him. Wherever
we look, everything is bright and new, and
completely different, because of Jesus Christ, Gods
Son. [The 365-Day Devotional Commentary re Rom.
5:1"11]

COMMENTARY PEARL

You see, at just the right time, when we
were still powerless, Christ died for the
ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous
person, though for a good person someone might
possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own
love for us in this: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8, NIV)
Two men camping in the forest were
enjoying their morning coffee when they suddenly
spotted a very large, hungry grizzly bear lumbering
toward them. One of the men quickly pulled on his
running shoes. "Do you actually think you can outrun
that grizzly bear?" his friend asked.
"I don't need to," he replied. "All I
have to do is outrun you."
We've all had friends like that, haven't
we? At the first threat of danger or hardship or
difficulty, they're out the back door. So what makes for
true friendship? It has been said that a true
friend is one who walks in when others walk out.
Thankfully, there have been people in my life who have
stood by me and have been honest friends. But
there's one thing of which I'm confident: I have
found a true and loyal friend in Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ offers His friendship to us.
In fact, the New Testament goes so far as to
say that we have been called by God the Father
into fellowship with His Son (see 1 Corinthians
1:9). But is it all one way? Do we really expect a
friendship without a response on our part? A genuine
relationship, obviously, is made up of two people
committing themselves to one another. I can extend
friendship to you, but until you return it to me, I
can't legitimately say we're really friends.
   Jesus demonstrated His willingness to
have a friendship with us by what He did for us.
He said, "Greater love has no one than this,
than to lay down one's life for his friends"
(John 15:13). Jesus forever proved just how
dedicated He was to us when He did just that. [Every
Day with Jesus by Greg Laurie]

COMMENTARY

God Says to Come as You Are
Everything that Jesus did for you, he did
out of love. The Bible says that God made you to
love you. The only reason youre alive is
because you were made to be loved by God.
God made you and wants you alive so he
can love you and so you can love him back.
God didnt just say he loved you; he
demonstrated it. The Bible says, God showed his great
love for us by sending Christ to die for us while
we were still sinners (Romans 5:8NLT). It
says he did this while we were still sinners.
Before I even knew God or knew I needed God in my
life, Jesus died for me.
Theres a myth that says Ive got to
clean up my act before I can come to God: I
have to get it all together. There are a few
things I need to get right in my life first, and
then Ill come to God. No! You come to God
with your problems - the good, the bad, and the
ugly.
Its like when we brush our teeth
before we go to the dentist to have a teeth
cleaning or when we wash the dishes before we put
them in the dishwasher or when we pick up the
house before the housecleaner gets there. Why do
we do this?
God says, No, no! You dont have to
clean up your act. Just bring it all to me. Bring
me all your problems. I have all the answers.
Come as you are.
If you dont act on this news, then the
death of Jesus Christ and his Resurrection are
wasted for you personally. It makes no difference
in your life. You may recognize the gift, but
you still have to receive it.
You will be saved, if you honestly
say, Jesus is Lord, and if you believe with
all your heart that God raised him from death.
God will accept you and save you, if you truly
believe this and tell it to others(Romans 10:9-10
CEV).
God is not asking you to make a promise
you cannot keep. God is asking you to believe a
promise that only he can keep. [Daily Devotional by
