Ephesians 5:15-17 - Be Careful How You Live.

Ephesians 5:15-17 (NKJV) See then that you
walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16
redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the
will of the Lord is.

Four Scriptural Touches
The Center for Bible Engagement surveyed
more than 400,000 people and found that if
youre not reading your Bible at least four times a
week or more, then you wont make significant
changes or choices any differently than someone who
doesnt read the Bible.
The survey also found that if you read
your Bible four or more times a week, your
propensity for pornography goes down 59 percent, and
youll be 30 percent less likely to struggle with
loneliness.
In addition, reading your Bible at least
four times a week means youll be 228 percent
more likely to share your faith with others and
407 percent more likely to memorize Scripture.
The apostle Paul wrote to the believers
in Ephesus, See then that you walk
circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the
time, because the days are evil (Ephesians
5:15-16 NKJV). The word redeem means to make sacred
and wise use of every opportunity.
A lack of faith causes us to worry, and
we wont grow in faith if we dont read the
Bible. As Romans 10:17 reminds us, So then faith
comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of
God (NKJV). Instead of worrying, read the Bible
and believe what it says.
Obviously its very important to read
the Bible four times a week. Just four
scriptural touches every week can change your life. But
its even better to read the Bible every day. So
let the Word of God bolster your faith. Trade
your worry for worship.
Jesus said, But seek first the kingdom
of God and His righteousness, and all these
things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33
NKJV). So put God first in your priorities, in your
marriage or your singleness, in your career, and in
your finances. Honor the Lord, and let Him have
His way in your life. [Greg Laurie from Harvest

COMMENTARY

All about Time
Im passionate about time management. I
want efficiency and effectiveness. In fact, a
weakness of mine is books on the investment of my
time. Books that tell me how to replace being busy
with being effective. Books that caution me to
think things through before plunging into them.
   Thankfully, Gods Word speaks straight
to the heart of that issue. The apostle Paul
wrote about it in his letter to the Ephesians:
Be careful how you live. Dont live
like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the
most of every opportunity in these evil days.
Dont act thoughtlessly, but understand what the
Lord wants you to do. Dont be drunk with wine,
because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled
with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making
music to the Lord in your hearts. Ephesians
5:15-19
Passages in the Bible like that always
grab my attention. An alarm inside my system goes
off whenever I sense a waste of energy in what
Im doing - when there is some leak in my
time-dike I have failed to plug. Without wanting to be
neurotic about it, I get a little nervous when I
think I am not living purposefully, when I am
failing to make the most of every opportunity, as
Scripture so clearly commands.
We absolutely cannot get this wrong when
we live in full surrender to the Holy Spirit -
that means humbly bringing our lives, attitudes,
calendars, and everything else before Him and asking
for His perspective.
That attitude is a first step and a major
secret to living above our circumstances rather
than under them. Take a few moments to humbly
surrender your day to the Holy Spirit, and see how He
makes the most of your time as you follow His
lead. [Chuck Swindoll www.insight.org.]
