Psalm 19:7 - If You Want to Be Transformed.

Psalm 19:7 (NLT) The instructions of the 
LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees 
of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the 
simple.  

INTRODUCTION

When we think of the law, we often think of 
something that keeps us from having fun. But here we 
see the opposite - law that revives us, makes us 
wise, gives joy to the heart, gives light to the 
eyes, warns us, and rewards us. Thats because 
Gods laws are guidelines and lights for our path, 
rather than chains on our hands and feet. They 
point at danger and warn us, then point at success 
and guide us. [Life Application SB] 

COMMENTARY PEARL

   If you dont want God to transform your 
life, then dont read the Bible. 
   David wrote, The instructions of the 
Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees 
of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the 
simple (Psalm 19:7 NLT). 
   When you read Gods Word, it revives 
you. It restores you. And it transforms you. 
   Now, if you have it all worked out, then 
I guess you dont need the Bible. But of 
course, youre also delusional, because all of us 
need the Word of God. The Bible is the users 
manual that weve been looking for. Someone has 
pointed out that the word Bible is an acronym for 
basic instructions before leaving Earth. 
   The Bible is for people who have a sense 
of desperation about where they are in life. 
Its for people who dont know the purpose of 
life and want to know what that purpose should 
be. The Bible is for people who arent really 
sure where they came from, and theyre not 
really sure where theyre going. 
   In addition, the Bible is for people who 
want to change. Its is for people who wish 
they could control their passions, who dont 
want to be mere victims of their circumstances, 
and who wish there wasnt so much pain in 
life. The Bible is for people who want better 
relationships with others. 
   Yet some people say things like this: 
Well, I tried the whole Christianity thing, and it 
didn't work for me. If it didnt work for 
them, then that isnt on Jesus; thats on 
them. Jesus Christ will change any person who 
comes to Him. 
   If you want to be a growing Christian, 
then you need to spend time in Gods Word 
because it will transforms you. So read, love, 
study, and memorize the Word of God. [Greg Laurie

COMMENTARY

There is not a negative in that law, 
although it may appear thus. It is DO, and Live 
(Letter 89, 1898). 1BC1104-5 

God has given us His holy precepts, because 
He loves mankind. To shield us from the results 
of transgression.. The law is an expression 
of the thought of God; when received in Christ, 
it becomes our thought. It lifts us above the 
power of natural desires and tendencies, above 
temptations that lead to sin. God desires us to be 
happy, and He gave us the precepts of the law that 
in obeying them we might have joy. When the 
law was proclaimed from Sinai, God made known to 
men the holiness of His character, that by 
contrast they might see the sinfulness of their own. 
The law was given to convict them of sin, and 
reveal their need of a Saviour. It would do this as 
its principles were applied to the heart by the 
Holy Spirit. DA307-9   

By His own obedience to the law, Christ 
testified to its immutable character and proved that 
through His grace it could be perfectly obeyed by 
every son and daughter of Adam. Because the law 
of the Lord is perfect, and therefore 
changeless, it is impossible for sinful men, in 
themselves, to meet the standard of its requirement. 
This was why Jesus came as our Redeemer. It was 
His mission, by making men partakers of the 
divine nature, to bring them into harmony with the 
principles of the law of heaven. MB49-51
