Psalm 19:7 - If You Want to Be Transformed.

Psalm 19:7 (NLT) The instructions of the 
LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees 
of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the 
simple.  

INTRODUCTION

When we think of the law, we often think of 
something that keeps us from having fun. But here we 
see the opposite - law that revives us, makes us 
wise, gives joy to the heart, gives light to the 
eyes, warns us, and rewards us. Thats because 
Gods laws are guidelines and lights for our path, 
rather than chains on our hands and feet. They 
point at danger and warn us, then point at success 
and guide us. [Life Application SB] 

COMMENTARY PEARL

Spiritual Junk Food
   Not long ago I read about a personal 
trainer who was in perfect shape. He ate the right 
foods and loved to exercise. But most of his 
clients were overweight, and he couldnt really 
relate to what they were going through. 
   To better understand their struggles, he 
decided to intentionally gain 70 pounds. He started 
by changing his diet. Instead of his usual 
healthy food, he ate fattening foods. It was 
exhilarating to him because at first there was no 
difference in his body. He still looked good. 
   But then he started to notice some 
changes. First to go were his abs. Then he started 
getting flabby. He found that his blood pressure was 
going up, and he was tired all the time. He felt 
lethargic and depressed. 
   To me this is a picture of what its 
like in the Christian life when we start going in 
the wrong direction spiritually. Instead of 
nourishing ourselves with the message of God's Word, we 
fill our lives with spiritual junk food. 
   We all have those moments when we 
stumble, when we trip up, when we make the wrong 
decision, when we think that wrong thought and need to 
repent. When this happens, we need a spiritual 
reboot. We need to be revived and refreshed. 
   The Bible tells us, The instructions 
of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The 
decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the 
simple (Psalm 19:7 NLT). 
   If you want to be a growing Christian, if 
you want to produce spiritual fruit, then you 
need to be a Bible studying Christian. 
   As believers, we are either progressing 
or regressing. We are either going forward or 
going backward. And the moment we stop our forward 
momentum is the moment we begin our backward

COMMENTARY

There is not a negative in that law, 
although it may appear thus. It is DO, and Live 
(Letter 89, 1898). 1BC1104-5 

God has given us His holy precepts, because 
He loves mankind. To shield us from the results 
of transgression.. The law is an expression 
of the thought of God; when received in Christ, 
it becomes our thought. It lifts us above the 
power of natural desires and tendencies, above 
temptations that lead to sin. God desires us to be 
happy, and He gave us the precepts of the law that 
in obeying them we might have joy. When the 
law was proclaimed from Sinai, God made known to 
men the holiness of His character, that by 
contrast they might see the sinfulness of their own. 
The law was given to convict them of sin, and 
reveal their need of a Saviour. It would do this as 
its principles were applied to the heart by the 
Holy Spirit. DA307-9   

By His own obedience to the law, Christ 
testified to its immutable character and proved that 
through His grace it could be perfectly obeyed by 
every son and daughter of Adam. Because the law 
of the Lord is perfect, and therefore 
changeless, it is impossible for sinful men, in 
themselves, to meet the standard of its requirement. 
This was why Jesus came as our Redeemer. It was 
His mission, by making men partakers of the 
divine nature, to bring them into harmony with the 
principles of the law of heaven. MB49-51
