John 10:10 - The Abundant Life!

John 10:10 (NKJV) I have come that they may
have life, and that they may have it more
abundantly.

John 10:10 (MSG) I came so they can have
real and eternal life, more and better life than
they ever dreamed of.

INTRODUCTION

The life Jesus gives is abundantly richer
and fuller. It is eternal, yet it begins
immediately. Life in Christ is lived on a higher plane
because of his overflowing forgiveness, love, and
guidance
Abundance of life points to depth of
living now and length of living in eternity. It is
not only life as good as it can be, but also
life beyond what we can imagine!...
It is clearly not, however, a life that
denies problems and pain. Rather, it is a life that
faces them and makes use of them. Instead of
letting us focus on the ups and downs of life, Jesus
takes us deep into life itself, where there is a
calm center even in the storm. [Life Application
Commentary]

COMMENTARY PEARL

My husband, Zane, and I are opposites in
many ways. He's competitive and I'm not. I
obsessively clean and he doesn't mind clutter. I'm a
planner and he's spontaneous. Unfortunately, we've
fallen into a trap of arguing with each other about
ridiculous little things, such as which drawer to use
to store the toothpaste. During our engagement,
our premarital counselor warned us of the
detrimental pattern of silly arguments. He told us to
remember that we're on the same team and we're not
each other's enemies. Although our personalities
are so different, I never thought we'd become a
couple who argued all the time.
I asked my group of close friends to pray
for us. Turns out, they too sometime struggled
with senseless arguments in their marriages.
Then, one of the girls showed us a video of two
gazelles with antlers locked and fighting. In the
background, a lion was sprinting toward them. The two
gazelles were so engrossed in their conflict that
they didn't see their enemy coming. Then the lion
pounced and killed one of the gazelles. What a
powerful image of how Satan, the thief, comes to
steal, kill, and destroy. When I argue with Zane,
one or both of us can be hurt and our
relationship damaged. Jesus said He came to give us
abundant life. Arguing with my loved ones is not
living life abundantly. So I'm trying - not always
successfully - to avoid silly arguments and experience
the abundant life and relationships Jesus came
to give us. And to remember who my true enemy
is. Jeannie Blackmer

somewhere as a reminder that those you love are not
your enemies and that Jesus came to give you
abundant life. [Mornings With Jesus 2022 Devotional

COMMENTARY

The devil is always messing with our
minds. He brings only gloom and doom. By the time
he was finished with Job, the man was sick and
alone. By the time he had done his work in Judas,
the disciple had given upon life. The devil is
to hope what termites are to an oak; hell
chew you up from the inside.
   Exaggerated, overstated, inflated,
irrational thoughts are the devil's specialty.
No one will ever love me.
   It's all over for me.
   Everyone is against me.
I'll never lose weight, get out of debt,
or have friends.
   What lugubrious, monstrous lies! No
problem is unsolvable. No life is irredeemable. No
one's fate is sealed. No one is unloved or
unlovable. But Satan wants us to think we are.
Satan is the master of deceit. But he is
not the master of your mind. You have a power he
cannot defeat. You have God on your side. He will
help you as well. Guard your thoughts and trust
your Father. [Max Lucado]
