Psalm 147:5 - God is Omniscient.

Psalm 147:5 (NLT) How great is our Lord! His
power is absolute! His understanding is beyond
comprehension!

INTRODUCTION

   Omnipotent: having unlimited power; able
to do anything.

   Omniscient: knowing everything.

COMMENTARY PEARL

He sees all
Some years ago a friend of mine was
standing on top of a mountain in North Carolina. The
roads in those days were filled with curves, and
it was difficult to see very far ahead. This
man saw two cars heading toward each other. He
realized they couldn't see each other. A third car
pulled up and began to pass one of the cars,
although there wasn't enough space to see the other
car approaching around the bend. My friend
shouted a warning, but the drivers couldn't hear,
and there was a fatal crash.
This is how God looks upon us in His
omniscience. He sees what has happened, what is
happening, and what will happen. He also sees us when
we foolishly think we can get by with breaking
His moral laws, or we act out of sinful pride or
lust or anger. Like the man on that mountain, He
shouts His warnings at us - but we are too busy or
too stubborn to listen.
God sees the whole picture. He knows what
is best for us, and He knows what will destroy
us. Don't think your way is better than His, but
listen to His Word - and obey. [Hope for Each Day
by Billy Graham]

COMMENTARY

Who is God?
So who is God? Can I trust Him to take
care of me? How much time do you have?
The weather changes - but God is
UN-changing! Fashion changes. Even change changes. But
Hebrews 6:17 says God is always the same -
yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
So can we trust God? Is He powerful
enough? You and I are limited - I think that goes
without saying! One sneeze in my direction, and
Im contaminated, sick with a cold and out for a
week. No one can soil or stain God. No sin
contaminates Him.
Were limited by brain capacity, time,
relationship overload, and responsibilities - you can
only be at one soccer game at a time after all!
And patience! But God? He has no limit to his
time, power, knowledge and love.
Check it out for yourself in Psalms
147:4-5
      He counts the stars
      and names each one.
Our Lord is great and very powerful.
There is no limit to what he knows.
So - can God take care of you? Ill let
you answer that! [Max Lucado Daily Devotional at

God Knows All
Two aspects of God's nature which cannot
be examined separately are His knowledge and
His wisdom. I link these two characteristics
together because really it is almost impossible to
consider one without considering the other.
   The difference between knowledge and
wisdom has been described like this: "Knowledge is
what we know; wisdom is the right application of
what we know." God, of course, knows everything:
everything possible, everything actual. He is perfectly
acquainted with every detail in the life of every being
in heaven, in earth, and in hell. Daniel said
of Him: "He knows what is in the darkness, and
light dwells with Him" (Dn 2:22). Nothing escapes
His notice, nothing can be hidden from Him, and
nothing can be forgotten by Him.
Many Christians, when referring to their
conversion, say that God has forgotten their sins, but
strictly speaking that is not so. God never forgets
anything. What He promises to do with our sins is
"never again remember" (Jr 31:34). There is a great
difference between forgetting something and deciding
not to remember it. Realizing, then, as we do,
that God knows everything ought to strengthen our
faith and cause us to bow in adoration before Him.
The hymnist put it effectively when he wrote
these words:
The knowledge of this life is small,
The eye of faith is dim,
But 'tis enough that God knows all
And I shall be with Him.
O Father, how consoling it is to know
that You know everything. Nothing ever escapes
Your attention. This means I can relax, for what
I don't know You know. And because You know
it, then what I don't know can't hurt me. Amen.

CLOSING THOUGHT

Sometimes we feel as if we don't understand
ourselves - what we want, how we feel, what's wrong
with us, or what we should do about it. But God's
understanding has no limit, and therefore he understands
us fully. If you feel troubled and don't
understand yourself, remember that God understands you
perfectly. Take your mind off yourself and focus on
God. Seek to become more and more like him. The
more you learn about God and his ways, the better
you will understand yourself. [Life Application
