Genesis 3:9 (NKJV) Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" INTRODUCTION These verses show God's desire to have fellowship with us. They also show why we are afraid to have fellowship with him. Adam and Eve hid from God when they heard him approaching. God wanted to be with them, but because of their sin, they were afraid to show themselves. Sin had broken their close relationship with God, just as it has broken ours. But Jesus Christ, God's Son, opens the way for us to renew our fellowship with him. God longs to be with us. He actively offers us his unconditional love. Our natural response is fear because we feel we can't live up to his standards. But understanding that he loves us, regardless of our faults, can help remove that dread. [Life Application SB] COMMENTARY PEARL Interference Telecommunications have changed our world. Now there are few instances when anyone is disconnected. But sometimes phone reception is difficult. It is not unusual for a call to be dropped or interrupted because of interference. Often people nearly scream into the phone, "Can you hear me?" A reply comes back, "I can hear you. Can you hear me?" It's sometimes a comical exchange. Sometimes the same happens when we try to communicate with God. It certainly happened to Eve. The first question God asked Eve was, "What is this you have done?" (Genesis 3:13). If Eve had had a mobile phone, she may have suggested there was interference on the line. But there is nothing humorous about broken communication with the Lord. When it happens, I can assure you that we are the interference - not Him. Sometimes we don't want to hear what He has to say because we already know what the Word of God has told us. But we must not let anything keep us from communicating daily with God. Not only does He want to communicate with us, He also wants to hear from us. Have you allowed interference to separate you from the Lord?
