Romans 12:5 - Christians Are So Different.

Romans 12:5 (NIV) so in Christ we who are
many form one body, and each member belongs to
all the others.

Romans 12:5 (NLT) so it is with Christs
body. We are many parts of one body, and we all
belong to each other.

Romans 12:5 (AMP) So we, numerous as we are,
are one body in Christ (the Messiah) and
individually we are parts one of another [mutually
dependent on one another].

Romans 12:5 (TPT) And so it is in the body
of Christ. For though we are many, we've all
been mingled into one body in Christ. This means
that we are all vitally joined to one another,
with each contributing to the others.

INTRODUCTION

Paul uses the concept of the human body to
teach how Christians should live and work
together. Just as the parts of the body function under
the direction of the brain, so Christians are to
work together under the command and authority of
Jesus Christ (see 1 Corinthians 12:12-31;
Ephesians 4:1-16). [Life Application SB]

COMMENTARY PEARL

My coauthor and friend, Beth, often tells
me she'd like to have a more outgoing
personality. "I have to think about everything I say and
always second-guess myself. I wish I were more
spontaneous, like you."
But I disagree. I may act and speak
quickly, but that impetuousness gets me into trouble
more often than I care to admit. I pray - a lot -
to control my words and impulses. Actually,
when I think about it, I should be more like
her.
Beth is the perfect balance for my
gregarious, bold nature. Just having her in the same
room with me is calming and helps me focus. Her
insights and wisdom, spoken in a soothing tone, often
keep me from making foolish mistakes.
Jesus knew what He was doing when He made
each of us unique and then gave us friends with
opposite personalities. Even Jesus's own close
friends were a wild mix: impetuous Peter, sensitive
John, left-brained Thomas. Jesus, alone, is the
perfect blend of qualities.
Aha. Rather than Beth and I aspiring to
act more like each other, our best bet is to be
more like Jesus. Jeanette Levellie
Faith Step: Read a story about Jesus's
life from one of the gospels: Matthew, Mark,
Luke, or John. Afterward, tell the Lord a quality
of His character you 'd like to develop.
