1 Peter 5:5, 6 (NKJV) Likewise you younger 
people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all 
of you be submissive to one another, and be 
clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, 
But gives grace to the humble." 6 Therefore 
humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, 
that He may exalt you in due time,

circumstances, and in his good time - either in this life 
or in the next - he will lift you up. [Life

COMMENTARY PEARL

   Many years ago, a game show treated women 
as "Queen for a Day." The winner was lauded 
with a royal robe, a bouquet of roses, and many 
prizes. 
   While the fantasy of sitting on a throne 
with treasures at my feet might be fun, Jesus 
challenges me to chase a very different path. He is the 
King of Kings. Yet He set aside His throne and 
crown to become fully human, to ride into 
Jerusalem on a lowly donkey, to suffer and die for my 
sake. 
   The righteous and victorious Son of God 
could have ridden on a fiery horse surrounded by 
thousands of glowing angels. Yet He chose humility - 
from His birth in tiny Bethlehem to His ministry 
among the poor and outcast to His entry into 
Jerusalem. 
   I confess that I'd rather be "Queen for a 
Day" than a humble servant. When someone slides 
ahead of me when I'm in line at the store, my 
impulse is to assert my rights. When a friend shares 
a story, my mind races to barge in with my 
even more interesting tale. I'd rather let 
someone else clean the dish drain, replace a roll of 
toilet paper, or peel the potatoes for dinner. But 
since I long to become more like Christ, I'm 
learning that if I practice a path of humility and 
service in small ways, His grace can change my
