John 16:33 - Same Problems, Same Solution.
John 16:33 (NIV) I have told you these
things, so that in me you may have peace. In this
world you will have trouble. But take heart! I
have overcome the world.
INTRODUCTION
Courage grows from the presence of Christ.
Jesus summed up all he had told them this night,
tying together themes from 14:27-29; 16:1-4; and
16:9-11. With these words he told his disciples to
take courage. In spite of the inevitable
struggles they would face, they would not be alone.
Jesus does not abandon us to our struggles either.
If we remember that the ultimate victory has
already been won, we can claim the peace of Christ
in the most troublesome times. [Life

COMMENTARY PEARL
Not so long ago many of man's physical
diseases were termed incurable. Today, we have drugs
so effective that many age-old diseases are
disappearing. But with all this progress, man has not
solved the basic problem of the human race. We
still can't govern ourselves or live together in
equality and peace!
We may create great new schools of art
and music, we may discover newer and better
vitamins, but there is nothing new about our troubles.
They are the same old ones that man has always
had, only they seem magnified and more abundant.
They may seem to give sharper pain and deeper
anguish; but fundamentally we are facing the same
temptations, the same trials, the same testings that have
always confronted mankind.
Since that tragic moment in the garden of
Eden, when man gave up God's will for his own
will, man has been plagued by the same problems.
And the Gospel of Jesus Christ gives us their
remedy.
