Psalm 147:5 - God is Omniscient.

Psalm 147:5 (NLT) How great is our Lord! His
power is absolute! His understanding is beyond
comprehension!

WORD STUDY

   Omnipotent: having unlimited power; able
to do anything.

   Omniscient: knowing everything.

INTRODUCTION

Sometimes we feel as if we don't understand
ourselves - what we want, how we feel, what's wrong
with us, or what we should do about it. But God's
understanding has no limit, and therefore he understands
us fully. If you feel troubled and don't
understand yourself, remember that God understands you
perfectly. Take your mind off yourself and focus on
God. Seek to become more and more like him. The
more you learn about God and his ways, the better
you will understand yourself. [Life Application

COMMENTARY PEARL

Our All-Knowing God
There isnt a single thing that happens
on earth that escapes the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 5:21 tells us, For the Lord sees clearly
what a man does, examining every path he takes
(NLT). God is aware of everything that is
happening.
Romans 11:33 says, Oh, how great are
Gods riches and wisdom and knowledge! How
impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and
his ways! (NLT).
The Bible tells us that God counts the
stars and calls each one by name (Psalm 147:4).
God knows everything. In this massive universe,
He knows the name of every star.
God also knows whats going on in the
animal kingdom. Jesus said, What is the price of
two sparrows - one copper coin? But not a single
sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father
knowing it (Matthew 10:29 NLT).
At the same time, God knows whats
going on with the people that He created in His
image. He is vitally aware of whats taking place
in our lives. Hes interested in us as
individuals.
David began Psalm 139 by saying, O
Lord, you have examined my heart and know
everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand
up. You know my thoughts even when Im far
away (verses 1"2 NLT).
God even knows what were thinking,
when we get up in the morning, what we eat for
breakfast, and what route we take to work or school.
He also knows the words we speak. Someone
has pointed out that the average person speaks
enough words in a day to fill a good-sized book -
over the course of a lifetime, a persons words
would fill a college library.
Isnt it comforting to realize that God
knows about us and cares about us? He knows the
intimate details of our lives. [Greg Laurie from

COMMENTARY

Two aspects of God's nature which cannot
be examined separately are His knowledge and
His wisdom. I link these two characteristics
together because really it is almost impossible to
consider one without considering the other.
   The difference between knowledge and
wisdom has been described like this: "Knowledge is
what we know; wisdom is the right application of
what we know." God, of course, knows everything:
everything possible, everything actual. He is perfectly
acquainted with every detail in the life of every being
in heaven, in earth, and in hell. Daniel said
of Him: "He knows what is in the darkness, and
light dwells with Him" (Dn 2:22). Nothing escapes
His notice, nothing can be hidden from Him, and
nothing can be forgotten by Him.
Many Christians, when referring to their
conversion, say that God has forgotten their sins, but
strictly speaking that is not so. God never forgets
anything. What He promises to do with our sins is
"never again remember" (Jr 31:34). There is a great
difference between forgetting something and deciding
not to remember it. Realizing, then, as we do,
that God knows everything ought to strengthen our
faith and cause us to bow in adoration before Him.
The hymnist put it effectively when he wrote
these words:
The knowledge of this life is small,
The eye of faith is dim,
But 'tis enough that God knows all
And I shall be with Him. [Every Day With
Jesus Bible with Selwyn Hughes devotional]

CLOSING THOUGHT

So who is God? Can I trust Him to take
care of me? How much time do you have?
The weather changes - but God is
UN-changing! Fashion changes. Even change changes. But
Hebrews 6:17 says God is always the same -
yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
So can we trust God? Is He powerful
enough? You and I are limited - I think that goes
without saying! One sneeze in my direction, and
Im contaminated, sick with a cold and out for a
week. No one can soil or stain God. No sin
contaminates Him.
Were limited by brain capacity, time,
relationship overload, and responsibilities - you can
only be at one soccer game at a time after all!
And patience! But God? He has no limit to his
time, power, knowledge and love.
Check it out for yourself in Psalms
147:4-5
      He counts the stars
      and names each one.
Our Lord is great and very powerful.
There is no limit to what he knows.
So - can God take care of you? Ill let
you answer that! [Max Lucado Daily Devotional at
