2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NLV) But he said to 
me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my 
power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I 
will boast all the more gladly about my 
weaknesses, so that Christ 's power may rest on me. That 
is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in 
weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, 
in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am 
strong.  

INTRODUCTION

We must rely on God for our effectiveness 
rather than simply on our own energy, effort, or 
talent When we are strong in abilities or 
resources, we are tempted to do God's work on our own, 
and that can lead to pride. When we are weak, 
allowing God to fill us with 'his' power, then we are 
stronger than we could ever be on our own we must 
depend on God. Only his power will make us 
effective for him and will help us do work that has 
lasting value. [Life Application SB] 

COMMENTARY PEARL

   I turn the radio on when Im working in 
the kitchen, mostly for company. I dont 
usually listen intently, but my ears perked up when 
I heard the question posed by a honey-voiced 
announcer: Who have you disappointed today? Being 
slightly compulsive, I made a list in my head.  
   I didnt get to the grocery store, so I 
was out of my cats favorite food. Ditto milk 
for my husband, Jeff. I was late getting home, 
so the pest-control technician had to wait 
before he could spray my house. I didnt get a 
card in the mail for my sick friend. I forgot to 
take the chicken out to thaw, so dinner would be 
pizza, again. I ate two candy bars instead of one 
protein bar. I forgot to return my daughters 
Crock-Pot, as promised. I cut my devotion time short to 
ride my bike before it rained. I failed to return 
my library books. I neglected to vacuum. 
Feeling dreadful about myself, I figured a better 
question might be, Who DIDNT I disappoint 
today?  
   In my heart, I knew the answer: Jesus! He 
knows my faults and my frailties. He sees when I 
fall short. He understands Im trying, but 
Im an imperfect person.  
   Jesus LOVES imperfect people! His grace, 
His power, works best in my weakness. He 
doesnt want me to beat myself up. Nothing I could 
ever do will disappoint Him. Pat Butler Dyson
