Romans 8:4 - An End to Sins Control.

Romans 8:4 (NLT) He did this so that the
requirement of the law would be fully accomplished for
us who no longer follow our sinful nature but
instead follow the Spirit.

Romans 8:4 (CWR) He did this so that by His
obedience the righteous requirements of the law could
be transferred to us who no longer follow our
sinful human natures, but shape our lives according
to the Sprit.

Romans 8:4 (MSG) And now what the law code
asked for but we couldn't deliver is accomplished
as we, instead of redoubling our own efforts,
simply embrace what the Spirit is doing in us.

Romans 8:4 (TLB) So now we can obey Gods
laws if we follow after the Holy Spirit and no
longer obey the old evil nature within us.

INTRODUCTION

If you are the children of God you are
partakers of His nature, and you cannot but be like
Him. Every child lives by the life of his father.
If you are Gods children, begotten by His
Spirit, you live by the life of God. In Christ
dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily
(Colossians 2:9); and the life of Jesus is made manifest
in our mortal flesh (2 Corinthians 4:11).
That life in you will produce the same character
and manifest the same works as it did in Him.
Thus you will be in harmony with every precept of
His law; for the law of the Lord is perfect,
restoring the soul. Psalm 19:7, margin. Through
love the righteousness of the law will be
fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit. Romans 8:4. MB77-78

COMMENTARY PEARL

Do you ever find yourself doing the thing
you dont want to do or thinking the thought
you dont want to think?
The apostle Paul described a similar
struggle in Romans 7. Yet theres not a single
mention of the Holy Spirit in this chapter. In
Romans 8, however, Paul made at least twenty
references to the Holy Spirit. In chapter 7, we see
Paul trying to live the Christian life in his own
strength. But by chapter 8, he realizes that help is
available.
There is someone who will enable us to
live the life God has called us to live, and that
is the Holy Spirit. Paul wrote, God declared
an end to sins control over us by giving his
Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so
that the just requirement of the law would be
fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our
sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit
(Romans 8:3-4 NLT).
If youre a spiritual person, then
youll naturally want to do spiritual things. For
instance, some people get up in the morning and make
spending time with God a priority. While theyre
driving, they might listen to a Christian radio
station, worship music, or a Bible study podcast.
They attend church regularly and are even
involved in a small group.
As a result, theyre getting stronger
spiritually.
In contrast, there are some who neglect
Bible study and prayer. They listen to talk radio
while theyre in their car. Theyll go to
church, but only occasionally. And theyre not
involved in a small group.
Is it any wonder, then, why some people
do better spiritually than others?
The best way to stop going backward in
your walk with Christ is to keep moving forward.
This is not a works-based righteousness. Rather,
its a working righteousness. And the way to do
it is with the help of the Holy Spirit. [Greg
