John 10:10 - The Abundant Life!

John 10:10 (NKJV) I have come that they may
have life, and that they may have it more
abundantly.

John 10:10 (MSG) I came so they can have
real and eternal life, more and better life than
they ever dreamed of.

INTRODUCTION

The life Jesus gives is abundantly richer
and fuller. It is eternal, yet it begins
immediately. Life in Christ is lived on a higher plane
because of his overflowing forgiveness, love, and
guidance
Abundance of life points to depth of
living now and length of living in eternity. It is
not only life as good as it can be, but also
life beyond what we can imagine!...
It is clearly not, however, a life that
denies problems and pain. Rather, it is a life that
faces them and makes use of them. Instead of
letting us focus on the ups and downs of life, Jesus
takes us deep into life itself, where there is a
calm center even in the storm. [Life Application
Commentary]

COMMENTARY PEARL

   Notorious art thief Stphane Breitwieser
robbed almost two hundred museums, stealing over a
billion dollars in artwork. However, this bandit did
not steal the paintings for money but for a love
of the art. Still, no matter how pure his
motivation may have been, it was still wrong.
The thief comes to steal and to destroy,
but we have a better life, a better future.
Christ came that we "may have life." The word "may"
in today's verse indicates that it is a
possibility; it is not an automatic credit to your
account. It is a choice. You can choose to have a new
life in Christ, or you can choose not to. It is
your decision. But when you choose the life
Christ offers, He promises that you "may have it
more abundantly."
The Greek word for abundant in today's
promise is perisss, meaning "all-around,
equidistant." Our Savior leads you to a well-balanced,
symmetrical life by abundantly blessing you with the
fruits of the Spirit, including "love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control" (Galatians 5:22, 23). And by
having all the fruits of the Spirit, a well-rounded
Christ-like character will be the end result. This is
having the life that Christ desires for you and
having "it more abundantly."
Why not "taste and see that the LORD is
good" (Psalm 34:8) by claiming today's promise? If
your spiritual fruit is bruised, God can make you
whole and complete in Him. Humbly ask Jesus for a
new and abundant life in Him.
Patient and loving Father, I'm asking for
a new and abundant life in You. Please give me
a well-rounded and Christ-like character.
Thank You for fulfilling Your promises. [The Most

COMMENTARY

To the believer, Christ is the
resurrection and the life. In our Saviour the life that
was lost through sin is restored; for He has
life in Himself to quicken whom He will. He is
invested with the right to give immortality. The life
that He laid down in humanity, He takes up again,
and gives to humanity. "I am come," He said,
"that they might have life, and that they might
have it more abundantly." "Whosoever drinketh of
the water that I shall give him shall never
thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be
in him a well of water springing up into
everlasting life." "Whoso eateth My flesh, and drinketh
My blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise
him up at the last day." John 10:10; 4:14; 6:54.

To the believer, death is but a small
matter. Christ speaks of it as if it were of little
moment. "If a man keep My saying, he shall never see
death," "he shall never taste of death." To the
Christian, death is but a sleep, a moment of silence
and darkness. The life is hid with Christ in
God, and "when Christ, who is our life, shall
appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in
glory." John 8:51, 52; Col. 3:4. DA 786-787
