COMMENTARY PEARL

Whatever Comes
As we trust God to guide us through this
life, we should not expect to bypass pain. It is
not possible! As long as we live in this world,
we will experience the full spectrum of
humanity. There is so much joy to experience, but
there is also suffering. There is peace, love, and
hope, and there is also disappointment, loss, and
grief.
It is not a failure to feel these things.
The Spirit is known as the Comforter for a
reason. Don't be afraid to recognize the hard
aspects of life. Even in these moments you will grow
in grace, love, and peace. You will have a
deeper understanding of the mercy of Christ if you
allow him to meet you in it. Trust, and don't be
afraid of what comes. God is your salvation no
matter what you walk through! Take his hand and
trust him to be with you no matter what.
Let the Lord's persistent presence be
your reason for thanks today. [365 Days of
Courage by Sara Perry of Broadstreet Pub]

COMMENTARY

In God We Trust
How did I let my dad talk me into this?
Jessie thought as the two of them were slowly
raised nearly 100 feet into the air. Her family was
on a vacation in Colorado, and her dad wanted
to try the Royal Rush Skycoaster - the scariest
skycoaster in the world. Its not the 100-foot tower
that makes this particular skycoaster scary; it's
what you swing over ... total nothingness.
The Royal Rush is perched on the edge of
the Royal Gorge. The Arkansas River rushes by
more than 1,200 feet below. (That's as tall as
the Empire State Building.)
"I've never been afraid of heights until
now," Jessie said.
"There's nothing to worry about," Dad
answered. "This is a strong, steel cable. We've got to
trust the cable."
Great, Jessie thought. My life is in the
hands of a cable.
Slowly, they inched higher and higher
above the canyon rim.
"Do you want to pull the cord?" Dad asked.
"You do it," Jessie said, her eyes
squeezed shut in fear.
"Three, two, one. Let's fly!" Dad shouted
as he pulled the cord.
Jessie and her dad zoomed toward the
ground at nearly fifty miles per hour. She was too
scared to scream as she flew over the side of the
gorge. Pausing for a moment at the end of the
cable, they soared back the other way.
"Yeah, this is great!" Jessie yelled as
they swung back and forth. "Let's get Mom to
try!"
Who do you trust with your life? Jessie
trusted the cable. As Christians, we have to trust
Jesus. God's Son said he came so we could have a
fulfilling life (John 10:10). A lot of people say they
trust God, but they don't demonstrate it with
their actions. Just like Jessie, theyre afraid
to take a risk and pull the cord. The prophet
Isaiah had some advice for Jessie and everyone:
"God is my salvation; I will trust and not be
afraid."
Jessie and her dad couldn't go anywhere
until they trusted the steel cable. It's the same
way with our faith in Christ. We're stuck until
we trust him and soar into the life he has
planned for us. Is there something you've wanted to
do for God but have been too afraid to try?
Pull the cord, trust him, and discover the
amazing adventure that awaits! [Case For Christ For
Kids by Les Strobel]

Living Water
When looking for a rural property, one of
the components most necessary is a water source.
If there isn't an existing one, you'll most
likely be digging until you hit an aquifer. In more
fortunate locations, you might find water at 30 feet;
other people, however, have gone down thousands of
feet before striking.
Typically, in Bible times, wells were dug
by hand to a depth of around 30 to 40 feet.
(Jacob's well was 75 feet deep.) Wells were so
important in the dry region of Palestine that quarrels
over them were common, some tragically ending in
bloodshed. They were usually covered with a flat stone
to keep people and animals from falling into
them. To draw out their life-giving contents, a
jar with a rope would be lowered.
   During the Israelites' wilderness
wanderings, God provided water from a rock (Exodus
17:6). As the apostle Paul explained, "They drank
of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and
that Rock was Christ" (1 Corinthians 10:4). In
Jerusalem, priests commemorated this miracle during the
Feast of Tabernacles by drawing water from the
nearby spring of Shioah and carrying it in a gold
vessel to the temple. Indeed, it was at this very
feast that Jesus pointedly stated, "If anyone
thirsts, let him come to Me and drink" (John 7:37).
Christ Jesus Himself is "living water"
(4:10). He is the Savior, the One who has
accomplished salvation for the human race and now
promises it as a free offer to all people (Isaiah
55:1). Through Him alone, "you will draw water from
the wells of salvation." If you are thirsting
for more than what this world offers, claim
Christ's promise of joy - your salvation. He promises
that you will never thirst again (John 4:13).
Dear Jesus, I am thirsty for truth that
will sustain me forever. I humbly come to You and
ask for the gift of salvation. [The Most Amazing

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

Trust Me and don't be afraid, for I am your
Strength and Song. Do not let fear dissipate your
energy. Instead, invest your energy in trusting Me
and singing My Song. The battle for control of
your mind is fierce, and years of worry have made
you vulnerable to the enemy. Therefore, you need
to be vigilant in guarding your thoughts. Do
not despise this weakness in yourself, since I
am using it to draw you closer to Me. Your
constant need for Me creates an intimacy that is well
worth all the effort. You are not alone in this
struggle for your mind. My Spirit living within you
is ever ready to help in this striving. Ask Him
to control your mind; He will bless you with
Life and Peace. (Isa. 12:2; Rom. 8:6) [Jesus
Calling by Sarah Young]

Bring Me all your feelings, even the ones
you wish you didn't have. Fear and anxiety still
plague you. Feelings per se are not sinful, but
they can be temptations to sin. Blazing missiles
of fear fly at you day and night; these attacks
from the evil one come at you relentlessly. Use
your shield of faith to extinguish those flaming
arrows. Affirm your trust in Me, regardless of how
you feel. If you persist, your feelings will
eventually fall in line with your faith.
Do not hide from your fear or pretend it
isn't there. Anxiety that you hide in the recesses
of your heart will give birth to fear of fear:
a monstrous mutation. Bring your anxieties out
into the Light of My Presence, where we can deal
with them together. Concentrate on trusting Me.
and fearfulness will gradually lose its foothold
within you. (Eph. 6:16; 1Jo. 1:5-7; Isa. 12:2)
[Jesus Calling by Sarah Young]

Trust Me, and don't be afraid. I want you
to view trials as exercises designed to develop
your trust muscles. You live in the midst of
fierce spiritual battles, and fear is one of
Satan's favorite weapons. When you start to feel
afraid, affirm your trust in Me. Speak out loud, if
circumstances permit. Resist the devil in My Name, and he
will slink away from you. Refresh yourself in My
holy Presence. Speak or sing praises to Me, and
My Face will shine radiantly upon you.
Remember that there is no condemnation
for those who belong to Me. You have been judged
NOT GUILTY for all eternity. Trust Me, and don't
be afraid; for I am your Strength, Song, and
Salvation. (Jam. 4:7; Rom. 8:1, 2; Isa. 12:2) [Jesus
Calling by Sarah Young]

Trust Me and don't be afraid. Do not be
frightened by world events or news reports. These
reports are biased - presented as if I do not exist.
News clips show tiny bits of world events from
which the most important factor has been carefully
removed: My Presence in the world. As journalists
sift through massive amounts of information, they
strain out everything about Me and what I'm
accomplishing on the earth.
Whenever your world is feeling like a
scary place, turn to Me and encourage yourself in
My Presence. Follow the example of David, who
strengthened himself in the Lord when his men were
threatening to stone him. You also can find courage
through remembering who I am. Ponder My awesome
Glory and Power; delight in My unfailing Love.
Rejoice that you are on an adventurous journey with
Me and your ultimate destination is heaven. As
you keep focusing on Me and enjoying the rich
relationship I offer you, fear will subside and Joy will
rise up within you. Trust in Me wholeheartedly,
beloved, for I am your Strength and your Song. (Isa.
12:2; Exo. 33:14; 1Sa. 30:6) [Jesus Always by
Sarah Young]

CLOSING PEARL

Now when you can no longer be active, and
infirmities press upon you, all that God requires of you
is to trust Him. Commit the keeping of your
soul to Him as unto a faithful Creator. His
mercies are sure, His covenant is everlasting Let
your mind grasp the promises and hold to them. If
you cannot call to mind readily the rich
assurance contained in the precious promises, listen
to them from the lips of another. 2SM231, 232;
