Jeremiah 33:3 - Prayer Reveals Marvelous And Wonderful Things From God.

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

Jeremiah 33:3 (MSG) Call to me and I will answer you. I'll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.

INTRODUCTION

God is ready to answer our prayers, but we must come to him. Surely God could take care of our needs without our asking - but when we do ask, we are acknowledging that he alone is God and that he is all-powerful. We cannot accomplish in our own strength all that is in his domain to do. When we ask, we must humble ourselves, lay aside our willfulness and worry, and determine to obey him. COMMENTARY PEARL

We may keep so near to God that in every unexpected trial our thoughts will turn to Him as naturally as the flower turns to the sun. Keep your wants, your joys, your sorrows, your cares, and your fears before God. You cannot burden Him; you cannot weary Him.... Take to Him everything that perplexes the mind. Nothing is too great for Him to bear, for He holds up worlds, He rules over all the affairs of the universe. Nothing that in any way concerns our peace is too small for Him to notice. There is no chapter in our experience too dark for Him to read; there is no perplexity too difficult for Him to unravel. SC99-100

He [Jesus] says, "My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." He bids them seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and His promise is that all things needful to them for this life shall be added. Worry is blind, and cannot discern the future; but Jesus sees the end from the beginning. In every difficulty He has His way prepared to bring relief. Our heavenly Father has a thousand ways to provide for us, of which we know nothing. Those who accept the one principle of making the service and honor of God supreme will find perplexities vanish, and a plain path before their feet.  DA330

COMMENTARY

When I was a kid growing up in our church's youth group, I memorized Jeremiah 33:3. The youth director told us it was God's phone number. Although that seems silly now, I am glad I memorized it because in my heart I learned to believe that when I call on Jesus, He answers me.
I have been going through a season of feeling hopeless. I am usually a happy person who sees the sunny side of things, but when things go wrong or the problems in the world seem so difficult to solve, it can be hard to keep a positive perspective. The only thing I know to do when I am feeling this low is to go back to the basics of my faith, many of which I learned in youth group. God's phone number - the idea that I can call on Jesus and expect an answer - is one of them.
I started calling Him, meditating and listening for His voice. It has not come in any loud or dramatic form. No wind, no rushing water, no lightning bolt. But it has started to trickle in like light through a crack or, as stated in 1 Kings 19:12, in a still small voice.
Not all of my problems are solved immediately, but God promises me the hope and assurance that when I call on Jesus He will answer. Gwen Ford Faulkenberry [Mornings With Jesus 2025 Devotional by Guideposts and Zondervan]
