John 10:27, 28 - A Relationship With Jesus Is Eternal Life.

John 10:27, 28 (NKJV) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

John 10:27, 28 (NLT) My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,

INTRODUCTION

In the same way that a shepherd protects his sheep from external threats, Jesus protects his people from eternal harm. While believers can expect to suffer on earth, Satan cannot harm their souls or take away their eternal life with God. You may face many fearful and dangerous trials here on earth because this is currently the devil's domain and he controls the hearts and minds of many (1 Peter 5: 8). But if you choose to follow Jesus, he will give you peace of mind now and everlasting safety. [Life Application SB 2019]

COMMENTARY PEARL

When the mind dwells upon self, it is turned away from Christ, the source of strength and life. Hence it is Satan's constant effort to keep the attention diverted from the Saviour and thus prevent the union and communion of the soul with Christ. The pleasures of the world, life's cares and perplexities and sorrows, the faults of others, or your own faults and imperfections--to any or all of these he will seek to divert the mind. Do not be misled by his devices. Many who are really conscientious, and who desire to live for God, he too often leads to dwell upon their own faults and weaknesses, and thus by separating them from Christ he hopes to gain the victory. We should not make self the center and indulge anxiety and fear as to whether we shall be saved. All this turns the soul away from the Source of our strength. Commit the keeping of your soul to God, and trust in Him. Talk and think of Jesus. Let self be lost in Him. Put away all doubt; dismiss your fears. Say with the apostle Paul, "I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20. Rest in God. He is able to keep that which you have committed to Him. If you will leave yourself in His hands, He will bring you off more than conqueror through Him that has loved you.
When Christ took human nature upon Him, He bound humanity to Himself by a tie of love that can never be broken by any power save the choice of man himself. Satan will constantly present allurements to induce us to break this tie--to choose to separate ourselves from Christ. Here is where we need to watch, to strive, to pray, that nothing may entice us to choose another master; for we are always free to do this. But let us keep our eyes fixed upon Christ, and He will preserve us. Looking unto Jesus, we are safe. Nothing can pluck us out of His hand. In constantly beholding Him, we "are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 3:18. SC 71, 2

COMMENTARY

His Hand
The peregrine falcon is known for its incredible diving speeds. During a hunting stoop, a dive in which a bird hits its prey mid-air at a massive speed, the falcon can start from a height of over half a mile and dive up to 200 mph toward its prey. Imagine the force of that impact!
Satan will try to snatch us out of God's hands. Sometimes we allow him by succumbing to temptation, and, just like the impact of the peregrine falcon on its prey, it hurts! But God is merciful. When we give our hearts to Christ and Stay Connected to Him, He promises that "no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand" because "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all?" No one is greater than our Creator. And who else could offer us so great a protection?
God's hand in today's promise is like the ark in Noah's day. In Matthew 24, Jesus said concerning the wicked antediluvians, "The flood came and took them all away" (v. 39, emphasis added). Then, comparing Noah's day to "the coming of the Son of Man" (v. 39), He said something about two people working side by side: "One will be taken and the other left" (vv 40, 41, emphasis added). Those who choose to stay in God's hand will not be "taken" to perish in hell but will be "left" to receive eternal life (John 3:16; Romans 6:23).
Almighty God, I am grateful for Your protection, and I accept Your fireproof gift. [The Most Amazing Bible Promises by Amazing Facts]

Becoming Spiritually Alive
If you want to live a fulfilling life, build your life on Jesus. It's as simple as that. John laid it out for us: "Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life" (1 John 5:12). Do you know you have Jesus in your life? To ask it another way, are you alive in Christ?
In following Jesus, we realize we fall short of the glory of God. God is perfect, and He can't have anything to do with sin, so we are initially separated from God. Spiritual death overtakes us. But the good news is that Jesus Christ came to earth. He lived on earth for thirty-three years. He was crucified. He died. He was buried in a borrowed tomb. And then Jesus was miraculously raised to life again, all so we can have eternal life.
You are in that narrative. You were on His radar when He was accomplishing eternal salvation. Don't waste another minute looking anywhere else for fulfillment. Only in Jesus can you have the fullness of life.
Dear Jesus, I choose today to follow You with all that I am. Thank You for calling me and for saving me, that I may have life to the fullest. [Grace and Glory by Louie Giglio]

CLOSING THOUGHT

All who have put on the robe of Christ's righteousness will stand before Him as chosen and faithful and true. Satan has no power to pluck them out of the hand of the Saviour. Not one soul who in penitence and faith has claimed His protection will Christ permit to pass under the enemy's power. PK 587
