Daniel 12:3 - Shining for Jesus!Daniel 12:3 (NIV) Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.INTRODUCTION Many people try to be stars in the world of entertainment, only to find their stardom temporary. God tells us how we can be eternal "stars": by being wise and leading many to his righteousness. If we share our Lord with others, we can be true stars - radiantly beautiful in God's sight! [Life Application SB 2019] COMMENTARY PEARL Falling Stars An Amazing Fact: A falling star (also called a shooting star) is not really a falling star at all. It is the path you see on a dark night of a meteoroid as it enters the Earth's atmosphere. Then it becomes a meteor. If it does not completely burn up and actually lands on the ground, it is then called a meteorite. Meteoroids range in size from a particle of sand to the size of boulders. Millions of them enter our atmosphere every day. Most are only the size of a pebble. And most, when they enter our atmosphere at great speeds, burn up and disintegrate. The composition of a meteoroid can actually be determined by its trajectory and the light spectrum it gives off. If a cluster of meteoroids enter the atmosphere somewhat close together, we call that a meteor shower. A fireball is a brighter-than-usual meteor. One of the brightest ever filmed was the Peekskill Meteorite of October 9, 1992. "Falling Star" is a very popular phrase that has been used by rock bands, television shows, children's games, and novels. Perhaps you know Perry Como's "Catch a Falling Star." But the Bible talks about the most significant falling star, Lucifer. "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God" (Isaiah 14:12, 13). Satan wanted to take the place of God. When Satan was cast out of heaven, "His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth" (Revelation 12:4). The falling star took others with him. Do not give yourself over to the enemy. Do not fall with him. Rather, shine for Christ by inviting Him into your heart today. [Moving Mountains by Amazing Facts] COMMENTARY The converted soul lives in Christ. His darkness passes away, and a new and heavenly light shines into his soul. "He that winneth souls is wise." "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever." What is done through the co-operation of men with God is a work that shall never perish, but endure through the eternal ages. He that makes God his wisdom, that grows up into the full stature of a man in Christ Jesus, will stand before kings, before the so-called great men of the world, and show forth the praises of Him who hath called him out of darkness into His marvelous light. Science and literature cannot bring into the darkened mind of men the light which the glorious gospel of the Son of God can bring. The Son of God alone can do the great work of illuminating the soul. No wonder Paul exclaims, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth." The gospel of Christ becomes personality in those who believe, and makes them living epistles, known and read of all men. In this way the leaven of godliness passes into the multitude. The heavenly intelligences are able to discern the true elements of greatness in character; for only goodness is esteemed as efficiency with God.
