Habakkuk 2:14 - Manifestation Of God's Glory.Habakkuk 2:14 (NKJV) For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, As the waters cover the sea.Habakkuk 2:14 (ESV) For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. WORD STUDY In Habakkuk 2:14, the "glory of the LORD" represents the full, manifest revelation of God's holy character, power, and divine presence, covering the earth completely, just as water fills the sea. This refers to an intense, universal, and experiential knowledge of God's majesty rather than merely intellectual information. Key aspects of this glory in the verse include: o Universal Recognition: A future, promised time where God's truth, holiness, justice, and mercy will be known to everyone, leaving no place untouched. o Manifest Presence: The visible and felt power of God, similar to how His glory filled the tabernacle or temple. o Contrast to Darkness: A message of hope and restoration, promised amidst times of chaos, sin, and judgment. o Divine Revelation: The ultimate revealing of God's nature, often understood as being fulfilled through Christ, as his glory fills the world. The verse, "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea," signifies that God's presence will not be limited to a specific place or people but will be known everywhere. AI INTRODUCTION Habakkuk quotes Isaiah 11:9 and prophesies about the day when all people and nations will see the glory of the Lord revealed. Wealth will turn to ashes, but God's glory lasts forever. [Life Application SB 2019] COMMENTARY PEARL The Woven Thread of Glory One of the greatest pitfalls of the modern Christian is the tendency to make everything about us. We reduce Jesus to a self-improvement technique, saying, "He helps me feel better about my life." If we're not careful, in the end, the person of Christ, the promise of the Word, the gathering of the people, the work of the cross, the hope of heaven can all become about "me." God wants you to experience the fullness of who He is. He wants you to know that you're a vital part of the story. But it's not all about you. God does not exist for us; we exist for God. We are not His maker; He is our Maker. The central aim of our lives is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. We are designed to be dependent on our Creator and reflect His greatness and glory. You get the fullness of life and breath and gifts and opportunities, and God gets credit and glory and praise from your life. This is what you are made for and why glory is woven through every fiber of your being. Lord, You are holy, holy, holy. With every breath today I will cry out "Holy," for Your glory has captured my attention. [Grace and Glory by Louie Giglio] COMMENTARY One of my favorite things to do is to attend online tours of historical sites. Virtually, I've walked through royal tombs in Egypt. I've explored ancient ruins in Rome. And I've also seen carvings in the burial chambers of four kings in the Persian Empire. It's interesting to visit those primitive places from the comfort of my living room. Even more interesting to me is that some of the people from history who received great glory during their time on earth are barely known today. For example, I would imagine few of us in 2024 have heard of the pharaoh Horemheb. Over time, great empires are overthrown. Those in power change, and their grand palaces are reduced to rubble. Honored leaders and their dynasties are forgotten, and the cities they built are eventually buried under rocks, dirt, and sand. But the glory of Jesus never ends. Whenever I get discouraged about our current culture and how secular and sometimes ungodly aspects are glorified today, I close my eyes and picture the glory of Jesus flowing over every part of the earth. Like waters cover the sea, no spot will remain untouched by Him. As history has taught me from my online visits, man's glory is for a season, but Jesus's glory is for eternity. While King Horemheb and what he stood for is all but forgotten, the name of the greatest king of all, King Jesus, endures forever.
